The Lumix FZ82 v the Canon r6 Mk2 ???

25/06/2024

Approximately 1 year ago I took my first "wildlife" picture using the amazing Lumix FZ82 bridge camera. It was of a lapwing which landed nearby when I was trying to compose a landscape shot. Last Sunday I took another lapwing picture at the same site, using my new Canon r6 Mk2 with a Sigma 150-600 contemporary lens. Whilst the full frame sensor r6 obviously provides orders of magnitude more dynamic range etc, the phone-like sensor of the FZ82 provided a perfectly usable image for social media. The Lumix also beat Sigma lens on zoom capability! If you want to try out nature photography for yourself the FZ82 is a great, relatively cheap place to start.

Although still new to the Canon r6 it has already excelled in low light conditions such as under trees on an overcast day. The picture of the early morning roe deer shows a rich depth of colour even though the light was very limited at the time.
