First use of my new Sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens.

Having recently discovered how effective some lens adapters are, I quickly succumbed to the temptation to add a Sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens to my Canon R10 camera.. After taking a week to work out how to carry it "in the field" I tried it at one of my favourite locations the Ben Rhydding Nature Reserve.

For once I got to the site very early but still managed to miss most of the golden hour. However I did bump into a birder who was good enough to demonstrate the Merlin bird app for me. I had been wondering how to learn a few basic bird calls and now I know how.

Obviously the extra 200mm reach over that the Canon RF 100-400mm is a big boost, but the main advantage of this lens are the bigger maximum apertures. In place of F/8 at 400mm I now F6.3 at 600mm. This gives a massive boost to the r10 autofocus which locks on much faster with the extra light.

In addition to the reliable great tit, and an obliging chiffchaff, this was the very first time that I have seen a red kite whilst holding a camera.
