My new Cotton carrier G3 camera harness

One of the shocks of buying a 150-600mm Sigma zoom lens is how the heck do you carry it when scrambling around the countryside. After nearly falling 20ft into the river Nidd at Nidd gorge, I decided that a camera harness which allows both hands to be free was an essential safety item!

Although aware of the cotton carrier range, as a new photographer I could not justify their "expensive" prices at the time. My choice was £100 cheaper and a good "proof of concept" purchase. However its light weight nylon webbing made it difficult to put on, especially at 4 in the morning! More importantly it was prone to jamming just as you have a surprise encounter with a fast moving target.

Having owned the Cotton carrier G3 for a few weeks now it is definitely worth the extra money. The construction uses heavier duty materials making it is easier to wear and adjust. Its patented locking system has not jammed on me yet, and the harness distributes the weight much more comfortably around the body.

The highly technical reason for choosing the camouflage version over the standard grey version was that it was £25 cheaper at the time of purchase 😂
